There are many historical sights to discover in this scenic location. The town hall and the Amtshaus are located in the town center. With the Freizeitspass and SunGolf, Eckartsberga also offers many leisure and excursion destinations, especially for families.

The town became famous thanks to Eckartsburg Castle, which was built by Margrave Ekkehard I of Meissen in 998 due to its location on the Sachsenberg on the important Via Regia. Eckartsberga had market rights in the late Middle Ages, town rights from 1288, was a mint and had its own jurisdiction. From 1485, the town was the seat of the Saxon office of the same name. Until the middle of the 17th century, town life was dominated by haulage companies. A so-called pillar of fire on the outskirts of the town commemorates the burning of witches in 1563. Eckartsberga was on the edge of the battlefields during the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806.

The Heimatstube is located in the historic town hall. The many exhibits and battlefield finds provide a comprehensive insight into the lively history of Finnestadt. From there, you can also take a walk to the defiant Eckartsburg castle. The castle's showpiece is the 36-metre-high keep, which served as a watchtower and accommodation. Also worth seeing is the diorama with 6,000 pewter figures housed in the keep, which recreates the Battle of Jena/Auerstedt in 1806.
