Heinrich Schütz House
Heinrich Schütz House
So close to the music! Heinrich Schütz is indisputably regarded as the first German composer of European standing. In the Heinrich Schütz House in Weißenfels, the composer himself talks about his life and takes his listeners on a wonderful journey through time. The court chapel master of the Electorate of Saxony spent his twilight years here. His great late works were composed in the composer's parlor. The most valuable treasure presented here are two fragments of music by the composer's hand, which were found in the house. The exhibition - which is located in the only original preserved residence of the master - makes his work tangible in a multiple and sensual way.
In addition to historical musical instruments, valuable original early prints of his works are on display. Numerous sound samples, media stations and films give visitors a concise impression of Heinrich Schütz's compositional style. Adults and children can meet the aged composer himself: In fictional radio plays, Heinrich Schütz recalls important stages of his life. An architectural and archaeological discovery trail draws attention to valuable architectural details and finds. The implementation of this claim has been outstandingly successful, which was confirmed by the international "Iconic Award" in 2014. And perhaps you too will be inspired to sing along at this special place by the singing, sounding music stand?
Guided tours of the house are available in German and, on request, in English and Italian.
