Ildefonso Fountain Weimar
Ildefonso Fountain Weimar
If there is a "classical" fountain in Weimar, this is it. The "Ildefonso Group" is a copy of a late antique mamoriginal that was located in what is now Madrid. Goethe had a copy made of "Kastor and Pollux", as he called the two young men, for his house on the Frauenplan. It was not until 1824 that the fountain was moved to its present location on Burgplatz - to the rear of the Red Palace. The passage next to the fountain leads directly to the study center of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library.
