Glücksthal

In 1736, the village of "Glücksthal" was founded by the Greiner family at this location between Neuhaus am Rennweg and Steinheid. The workers produced table glass in a glassworks, which found buyers throughout Europe. Following the decline of the local glass industry, it was decided to cease production in 1838. After Carl Alfred Greiner sold the settlement to the state of Sachsen-Meiningen in 1856, the houses were demolished in 1860. Today the site is deserted. Visible traces of that time are a few cellar vaults and the hidden forest cemetery, the final resting place of members of the Greiner family. An open-air service is held here at Pentecost. Information boards explain the history of the deserted site. A shelter and seating invite visitors to linger.
