The Dreyse House is named after its most famous resident Nicolaus von Dreyse.

He lived and died here in the 19th century. During this time, he had some structural changes made. For example, the former workshop building was connected to the main house. Today, it is home to the Sömmerda Historical and Technical Museum, which provides visitors with insights into Dreyse's life and work, among other things. The so-called "celebration wing" was built in 1860. It now houses the Sömmerda town and district library.

The original baroque façade structure now has a classical appearance. The building is complemented by a rose garden in the Biedermeier style, which is accessible during the opening hours of the library and museum.
