Gera city wall
Gera city wall
Gera's city wall was built in the 15th century and served to defend the city.
The wall enclosed the city area with an area of 11 hectares. The five city gates (Badertor, Leumnitzer Tor, Weidaer Tor, Klotztor, Schlosstor) provided access to the city center. With the expansion of the town boundaries and economic growth, the gates and the wall were removed in the 19th century. The remains of the wall with an 8-metre-high defensive tower are still preserved today.
