Heiligenstadt mountain monastery
Heiligenstadt mountain monastery
Sister Placida founded the first German branch of the order in Heiligenstadt on the former Stiftsberg in 1862 after making contact with teachers in Eichsfeld in Thuringia. Since this time, the nuns in Eichsfeld have also been known as the Heiligenstadt School Sisters and the convent as the Bergkloster. The convent became the motherhouse of the German sisters. The actual convent includes the convent buildings, a convent chapel, a kindergarten and a convent garden with a Stations of the Cross. During renovation work in the 1990s, archaeological finds from the eighth to ninth centuries from the founding period of Heiligenstadt were discovered.
