The fortifications on the Petersberg included several barracks. The oldest was built around 1672. A single-storey terraced house with eight entrances and a passageway in the middle. More accommodation was needed during the Kurmainz period and the building was extended. Because living space was scarce in 1920, the house was converted and used for civilian purposes. In 1935-45, the military district command of the Wehrmacht moved in. Under GDR socialism, the former barracks became the home of a retirement home. Today there are apartments and offices here again.
