The Kulturbühne Meiningen belongs to the association "Kulturförderung im ländlichen Raum e.V.", which is a non-profit organization that supports culture in rural areas in Thuringia. It has a permanent stage and tours. Tours have taken the artists through southern, central and western Thuringia, as well as to Hesse and Bavaria.

Formats of the association's artistic work include the Meiningen Summer Theater and the Kulturbühne Meiningen. Offers and formats are constantly being expanded, creating performance opportunities for amateur artists, professionals and semi-professionals. Amateur actors from schools are also given opportunities to perform.

The aim of the summer theater department is to take up and stage historical subjects and events from the region. The aim is to promote social cohesion, diversity and participation in the local community. Anyone can take part, regardless of the form.
