The bookbinding workshop in Erfurter Straße was run by Paul Klee and Otto Dorfner. Dorfner, who was appointed to the School of Arts and Crafts in Weimar by Henry van de Velde in 1910, laid the foundations for modern binding art here and trained numerous bookbinders. The building became a successful teaching and production workshop for the state Bauhaus. The bibliophile Dorfner repeatedly reinterpreted Goethe's Faust in around 200 bindings here. Today, the historic building is empty.
