Mickiewicz Monument Weimar
Mickiewicz Monument Weimar
In 1956, a monument was erected near the banks of the Ilm in honor of the national poet and ardent admirer of classical German literature, Adam Bernard Mickiewicz. The work of the studied scientist and writer founded Polish Romanticism. Even in his early youth, he was considered a great admirer of Goethe and Schiller - especially their ideas of freedom. In August 1829, he was present as a guest at the celebrations for Goethe's 80th birthday in Weimar, staying at the "Hotel Elephant" on the market square. The monument was created and erected in 1956 by the German sculptor Gerhard Thieme.
