Müntzer memorial plaque in the Thomas Müntzer culture park
Thomas Müntzer was initially a follower of Martin Luther's ideas. However, Luther quickly distanced himself from him during the Peasants' War, as Thomas Müntzer expressed radical, social revolutionary aspirations and advocated the violent liberation of the peasants. He also fought in the war himself. Thomas Müntzer worked as a pastor in St. Mary's Church, and from there he promoted the uprisings.
On May 15, 1525, he was captured after the Battle of Frankenhausen. Thomas Müntzer was tortured and publicly executed in Mühlhausen on May 27, 1525.
The Peasants' War Monument serves as a reminder of the time of Thomas Müntzer and the Peasants' War.
