Goethe Fountain Weimar
Goethe Fountain Weimar
A treasure of the Frauenplan: The first cast-iron fountain in Weimar. The desolate condition of a wooden tubular box made it necessary to build a new fountain in front of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's house. It was designed by Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray. Today, the graduates of the Goethe-Gymnasium are "baptized" in it once a year. Each side plate of the octagonal fountain shows a symbol in the middle with a drinking snake in a wreath of leaves. Goethe documented the lively activity at the fountain in front of his house in a letter dated September 18, 1831.
