A stone cross erected in the Thuringian Forest in 1483 (the year Martin Luther was born) is known as the "Wild Sow". It depicts a hunter riding a sow, apparently trying to free a hunting companion from his uncomfortable position by holding a spear in front of him.

It is most likely an atonement cross erected by a Weimar servant who is said to have accidentally stabbed his master during the "Hohe Jagd" (high hunt) in an attempt to free himself. From here, the oldest dated stone cross on the Rennsteig, you have a magnificent view of Wartburg Castle.
