Wasungen Forest Botanical Garden
Wasungen Forest Botanical Garden
The Wasung Forest Botanical Garden is a beautifully landscaped park that is open to the public at all times and is used for education and recreation.
The establishment of the Wasungen forest botanical gardens began in 1974. Wild tree and shrub species are planted and cared for here as part of a long-term program. A visit is particularly worthwhile in May when the rhododendrons are in bloom. The nature trail and garden can be reached from the end of Wasungen in the direction of Eisenach directly on the B19 through the Borntal valley. Information and bookings for guided tours can be made at the Wasungen tourist information office (www.wasungen.de).
The Forest Botanical Garden is one of the most important in Germany.
Experience package:
Not far from the garden, just a few minutes' walk away, awaits Castle Maienluft for a visit. The beautiful complex enchants with the unique nostalgic charm of a ruin steeped in history and offers airy views of the Werra valley, here above the small carnival stronghold of Wasungen, as well as accommodation options and tasty regional fare in the eponymous Restaurant on the mountain top.
