Dessau stone
Dessau stone
A five-metre-high travertine slab was erected on the left side of the slope of the park on the Ilm in 1782. The inscription "Francisco Dessaviae Principi" (To Prince Franz von Dessau) can be read on it. The travertine slab from the quarry on the other side of Belvedere Avenue is dedicated to the builder of Wörlitz Park, Prince Franz von Dessau: a close friend of Duke Carl August of Weimar. As part of the park on the Ilm, the installation is therefore also part of today's UNESCO World Heritage Site.
