Baumbachhaus Kranichfeld
Baumbachhaus Kranichfeld
Birthplace of the poet Rudolf Baumbach and place for various cultural events
... Behind the window panes a face laughs so brightly, I would like to stay, but the car that rolls...
The approximately 350-year-old former Meyengut, a half-timbered house now known as the Baumbachhaus, is one of the oldest buildings in Kranichfeld. The Thuringian poet Rudolf Baumbach was born here on September 28, 1840 and spent his early childhood years here.
Many of Baumbach's poems were set to music. Many people still know the folk song "Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen" ("High on the Yellow Chariot"), which is the song that keeps him in our memories.
Today, the following facilities are located in the culturally and historically valuable building:
- the museum with a permanent exhibition commemorating the poet and his life
- a museum café
- the tourist information office
- the city library
- the historically designed wedding room
- the seniors' club
The rooms offer space for many cultural events in Kranichfeld.
