The Church of St. James was originally built as a pilgrimage church. And the idea of being on the way has remained: It was here that Goethe received a blessing for his journey with Christiane Vulpius. In 1989, it was here that the way was paved for the peaceful revolution in Weimar. The pastor at the time, Erich Kranz, who was made an honorary citizen of Weimar in 1991, played an outstanding role in this. And today? Jakobskirche is still the place where topics are brushed against the grain, where people debate about God and the world. Or about God in the world. Faith is kept alive here again and again, for example through the baby psalm singing or the Weimar Family Church - a special worship format for families that is at home in St. James' Church.
