Buttstädt market fountain
Buttstädt market fountain
After the construction of the late Gothic St. Michael's Church and shortly before the completion of the remarkable Renaissance town hall, a market fountain was erected in 1597 - when Buttstädt was once again ravaged by the plague. Archangel Michael - the patron saint of the town - towers in the middle of the fountain and, according to legend, cradles a child and the devil.
