The municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel is the largest municipality in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district with an area of 122 km². Approximately 6,200 inhabitants live in the 32 districts. The administrative seat is Uhlstädt, conveniently located on the Saalbahn and the B88. "Die Wache" near Großkochberg is the highest elevation in the municipality at 526 m above sea level, Kleinkochberg is the highest district at 410 m above sea level. The lowest point (169 m above sea level) is located in the district of Niederkrossen.

The municipality spreads out on the northeastern edge of the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district over the Saale valley, its side valleys and the surrounding mountain ranges. Located in the triangle between Saalfeld, Jena and Weimar, it is the ideal starting point to discover Thuringia.

The tourist offer is wide-ranging and offers interesting destinations for hiking on foot, on the water or by bike. Guests can choose from a wide range of accommodation in the various parts of the town, from sophisticated hotels to private accommodation. Visitors can convince themselves of the excellent Thuringian cuisine in numerous restaurants. In a quiet location, especially families spend an eventful vacation on the farm.

The old rafting village of Uhlstädt, together with Partschefeld, Ober- and Kleinkrossen, Rückersdorf, Weißbach and Weißen, is a state-recognized health resort.

A new clinic with 250 beds was opened in 1996 in the immediate vicinity of the old Weissenburg Castle, which is perched on a rocky spur 40 meters above the Saale River and was owned by the von Legefeld family from 1644 to 1761.

The landmark of the Hexengrund, an idyllic side valley of the Saale between Zeutsch and Schmieden, is the legendary Schauenforst castle ruin.

Großkochberg is known far beyond the borders of the municipality and Thuringia. Kochberg Castle, former residence of Charlotte von Stein, today Goethe memorial of the Weimar Classic Foundation, attracts thousands of guests every year.
