The Schmalkalden City and District Library was awarded the Thuringian Library Prize in 2020. The library offers weekly events for children and young people and has a large selection of literature on a wide range of topics. In addition to traditional print media, the Heinrich Heine Library also offers CDs, DVDs and a selection of board and console games. Visitors to the library can also use virtual reality glasses.
