Pennewitz umbrella museum and store
Pennewitz umbrella museum and store
A collection of historical umbrellas from three centuries awaits visitors on the second floor of a dignified umbrella store with leather goods and leather gloves. Master umbrella maker Annelies Pennewitz is happy to provide information about her exhibits and organizes small guided tours on request. Umbrellas of all kinds are sold and repaired in the store.
The lovingly furnished museum provides a highly entertaining insight into the history of this timeless accessory and presents unique pieces. Umbrellas already existed in East Asia in the third millennium before our time, but in Europe the "fashionable things to bend", as Goethe called them, only became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The trained umbrella maker is one of the last of her kind; the profession has not been trained since 1998. The umbrella museum can be visited during store opening hours.
