Immenrode tower windmill
Immenrode tower windmill
The village of Immenrode is located in a region of Thuringia where there were once many windmills. There were three windmills in the small village alone, one of which still characterizes the landscape today. The tower windmill, lovingly reconstructed over the past few decades and nicknamed "Erna", was built more than 160 years ago. Initially, the stone tower mill was only driven by wind power, but later a motor was added. Back then, the miller's family lived directly in the mill, which was rarely the case. The Mühlen- und Heimatverein Immenrode e.V. has been committed to the reconstruction and revitalization of the tower windmill for around 30 years, which can be visited by appointment. Events are also held regularly, for example on German Mill Day at Whitsun.
