Mirror fountain with Wildenbruch monument Weimar
Mirror fountain with Wildenbruch monument Weimar
A hybrid between a monument and a fountain: The ground-level basin with its water surface functions as a mirror in which the bronze sculpture - the Wildenbruch monument - is reflected. The monument was dismantled in 1976 for political reasons. This was mainly due to the inscription: "I do not fight to attack but to defend". It was thanks to an association that the sculpture of an ancient fighter was created in honor of the playwright Ernst von Wildenbruch (1845-1909) by Richard Engelmann, an artist of Jewish descent who taught at the Weimar School of Art. It was one of his first major sculptural works.
