Elisabethenburg Castle Park
Elisabethenburg Castle Park
The palace park stretches around the Elisabethenburg Palace in Meiningen. It was laid out at the beginning of the 18th century under Duke Bernhard I of Saxe-Meiningen in the style of French and Dutch Renaissance gardens. It consisted of eight squares surrounded by walls and moats.
Around 1770, under the regency of Duchess Charlotte Amalie, the strictly geometric garden was enlarged and transformed into an English landscape garden. Around 200 years later, several sculptures were added. The arched bridge over the Werra, designed by Eduard Fritze in 1883, is particularly worth seeing. Our premium hiking trail "der Meininger" also starts from here.
