The present-day town hall of Schleiz has probably been located on the town hall square since the 13th century. Only the town hall walls do not date back to that time, as the building repeatedly fell victim to devastating town fires, most recently in 1837.

The basic structure of today's town hall dates back to 1880, although the tower, portal and façade elements were altered again in 1914.

The entrance portal with the coat of arms of Schleiz is remarkable and worth mentioning is the carillon which plays different melodies every day at 9, 12, 15 and 19 o'clock.
