The Zeulenroda dam, now known as the Zeulenrodaer Meer, was built between 1968 and 1975. It covers an area of 228 hectares and is 7 km long and 0.5 km wide, including the Riedelmühle reservoir. In recent years, an enormous number of positive changes have been made following the lifting of the drinking water status. The Zeulenrodaer Meer is a popular attraction for hikers and "water rats". The dam wall of the Zeulenroda reservoir is 307 meters high and attracts water sports enthusiasts and swimmers as well as active holidaymakers, especially in the warmer months of the year.
