St. Cyriakus Church Schallenburg
St. Cyriakus Church Schallenburg
St. Cyriakus Church in the Sömmerda district of Schallenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1387.
Inside there is a baptismal font, which probably dates from the Romanesque period, a carved winged altar, which was made in 1464 in an Erfurt workshop, as well as an organ, which was built between 1801 and 1821 by Michael Hesse from Dachwig and his sons. The gallery paintings depicting biblical scenes are also worth seeing.
In 1701, the small church was extended in the east and received a pulpit altar with sawmill decorations. The late Gothic sacrament niche was also reinstalled.
The tower renovation and crowning was completed in 2017.
The parish of St. Cyriakus Church is part of the Evangelical Church District of Eisleben-Sömmerda.
