Windischleuba Dam
Windischleuba Dam
The former Windischleuba dam is now a protected area for nature and landscape following its restoration.
The dam is an approx. 130-hectare lake in Fockendorf. The lake and the surrounding floodplains are now used for bird and nature conservation. The Windischleuba dam is located around 40 kilometers south of Leipzig in the Thuringian district of Altenburger Land. Seen in the direction of flow, it is the first dam in the Lower Pleiße reservoir system.
The Windischleuba dam is located in a bird sanctuary and nature reserve. A softwood floodplain has formed on the banks of the dam on the sediments that were washed up by the Pleiße. It provides a home for numerous bird species. The dam was also given a fish pass during the renovation. Since then, it has been passable for fish and other aquatic life.
The popular restaurant "Am Stausee" with its large beer garden is located in the immediate vicinity.
