Pharmacy museum
Pharmacy museum
The Blankenhain town pharmacy, founded in 1701 with a Grand Ducal Saxon privilege, was located in Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße in Blankenhain until 1993. It had belonged to the Lattmann family since 1911. It was one of the few pharmacies in the GDR that was privately run until the fall of communism.
After the business premises became vacant in 2006, the Lattmann family - pharmacists in the fourth generation - decided after careful consideration to make the many stored devices, containers, collections and books accessible to the public in a museum. Through painstaking work, starting with cleaning and ending with systematizing and furnishing, a regional museum was created that documents the pharmaceutical past with its exhibits.
Under the historic cross vault, surrounded by the historic pharmacy furnishings, they listened to the pharmacist's exciting explanations of the wide range of services provided by a country pharmacy in earlier times. Explore the historical pictures, recipe books and contemporary documents on the history of the pharmacy, marvel at the pharmaceutical glass and porcelain jars and find out more in the tea and herb room.
