It is one of the most beautiful starting points for exploring Weimar's lively old town: Theaterplatz. The city's most famous landmark - the bronze double statue of Goethe and Schiller designed by Ernst Rietschel - is enthroned in the middle. The late classicist monument is flanked by the former widow's residence of Duchess Anna Amalia, the House of the Weimar Republic, the German National Theatre Weimar, the Goethe department store and numerous restaurants. The Frauenplan with Goethe's residence, the city church of St. Peter and Paul and the park on the Ilm are just a few minutes' walk from here.
