Visible from afar, the exciting new building with its birch bark façade draws attention to the beauty and richness of Thuringia's cultural landscape. The experience portal is a new central point of contact and information for visitors to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The ensemble with an inviting café in the inner courtyard also further activates the study center of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library as an open and public place.

Designed by Berlin architect Helga Blocksdorf, the sustainable building made of multi-layered solid wood panels towers above the Coudray Wall on Platz der Demokratie as a prominent wall rider. For an initial period of five years, the Weimar Experience Portal will create a spatial, formal and thematic link between the Park an der Ilm garden monument and the Weimar Classical buildings. A viewing platform offers a wonderful view of the park, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library and the City Palace. In the airy interior, floor-to-ceiling video walls with seven short films draw attention to selected tourist destinations in Thuringia. They provide a visually impressive introduction to the places and stories that the experience portal bundles into seven themed tours. The spectrum ranges from places of cultural and social historical significance to literature and residential culture: from the "birth of democracy" in Schwarzburg, where Friedrich Ebert signed the Weimar Constitution at his vacation resort, to the "tamed landscapes" of the baroque parks and landscape gardens, to the Thuringian Forest, where Goethe wrote a world-famous poem on the Kickelhahn. In addition to tour flyers, corresponding audio features accompany the route and can be accessed via the accompanying web app. The app also offers seven compositions created especially for the project by double bassist and Echo award winner Sebastian Gramss, which bring Thuringia to life musically and accompany the excursions.
