When Cumbach was elevated to the status of an independent parish church "St. Nikolaus" in 1468, a Gothic nave was added to the former Romanesque chapel. From 1763 to 1766, the church was thoroughly and uniformly remodeled in a simple Baroque style. The tower with its octagonal onion dome rises above the central building.
