Ginkgo tree Weimar
Ginkgo tree Weimar
"This tree leaf, entrusted from the east to my garden (...)": To the east of Goethe's garden house, directly opposite today's Duchess Anna Amalia Library, is Weimar's most famous ginkgo tree. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote his poem "Ginkgo Biloba" in 1815 about the two-part deciduous leaf of the tree with great symbolic power. The exotic tree is a symbol of friendship and is often said to have a rejuvenating effect in medicine. Souvenirs related to the tree and its leaves can be found all over the city, including ceramics, jewelry, porcelain, textiles, tea blends and cosmetics.
