New castle with spa gardens Bad Lobenstein
New castle with spa gardens Bad Lobenstein
The New Castle is a castle complex with a park in the south-eastern Thuringian town of Bad Lobenstein. The castle is located on the northern edge of the old town on Leonberger Platz. It is now used as a museum and displays a collection focusing on the regional and coin history of Reuss as well as temporary exhibitions. The new castle is a baroque complex to the north of the old town, built between 1714 and 1718. It was the residence of the Princes of Reuss-Lobenstein (until 1824); there is a pavilion in the garden (built between 1746 and 1748). The extensive and comprehensive renovation of the "New Palace" began in 1994. The ballroom in the south-east wing, decorated with valuable classical stucco work, is impressive. Two smaller rooms, the Blue and Green Salons, also fascinate with their extraordinary stucco elements.
Concerts, readings, lectures and even weddings take place in these beautiful rooms. The rooms in the central building house a seminar room in addition to the lavishly restored fireplace room. The respective rooms can be rented for company presentations, workshops and seminars. In the upper rooms, an exhibition on the history of the Prussian state and coinage can be viewed alongside another on the history of pharmacy in Lobenstein. Two further rooms offer space for temporary exhibitions of various genres.
Adjacent to our castle is the spa gardens, which contain interesting evidence of the geological past and mainly botanical features - namely 30 different tree species. Each tree species has its own characteristic message - and its medicine - on the nature trail of trees.
