Market church St. Bonifacius Bad Langensalza

The Marktkirche St. Bonifacii is the largest Protestant parish church in Bad Langensalza and is a key feature of Bad Langensalza's skyline.

The church, first mentioned in a document in 1272, was built from ashlars of local travertine with interruptions until 1592. The 72.49 meter high tower with its Renaissance upper storey is the second highest church tower in Thuringia. Two of the original four bells in the tower still ring today for church services and indicate the time every quarter of an hour. With its impressive diameter of 1.88 meters, Eckard Kuchen's bell from 1564 is one of the largest in Thuringia. The restored stone clock face of the single-handed clock from 1612 is a special historical component of the tower. In the interior of the nave, late medieval altars, a Romanesque baptismal font, the wooden coffered ceiling above the choir (1561), the pulpit from 1734, panel paintings and tombstones have been preserved alongside the neo-Gothic wall furnishings.
