Schiller House Rudolstadt
Schiller House Rudolstadt
The Schiller House is dedicated to Schiller's "Rudolstadt Summer" in 1788, a time that was not only one of the happiest in the poet's life, but also one in which many decisions were made: It was here that his erratic wandering life came to an end, he gained new confidence for his artistic work, and he met Goethe and his future wife Charlotte von Lengefeld. Before he married Charlotte, however, he lived for a summer in a ménage à trois with her and her married sister Caroline von Beulwitz. The contents of the exhibition are presented in the living rooms of the von Lengefeld and Beulwitz families, which were restored between 2005 and 2009, and staged using multimedia. In addition, theater performances, concerts, readings, lectures and discussion events take place all year round, as well as open-air concerts and cinema screenings in the park-like garden of the house. Coffee, drinks and cake are offered by the museum and invite visitors to linger in the garden.
