Scrub oak
Scrub oak
Many years ago, when this road had not yet been built, it meant that the highest point of the old trade route to Eisenach had been reached at this point. From here, the road descended towards Mihla. A "shaggy oak" at the site was a landmark for all those who used this route over the Hainich.
It is also assumed that an ancient pagan sacrificial site was located here. The old oak was probably destroyed by a lightning strike. The term "Struppeiche" has survived to this day.
In 2000, members of the Langula Foliage Cooperative planted a new tree on the site of the old oak.
