Town Wall Tower 2 is one of six surviving towers that can be found along the historic town wall of Sömmerda. Tower 2 is located in the northern part of the preserved section of the former town boundary, in the immediate vicinity of the fire station.

The wall, its towers and gates as well as the tower of the St. Boniface Church formed the town fortification of Sömmerda in earlier times. This was supplemented in the west by the Unstrut as a natural barrier.

Today, the city wall tower is used as an exhibition space. The contents are coordinated by the IG "Fire Brigade".
