Dionysius Monastery Bad Kissingen
Dionysius Monastery Bad Kissingen
The ruins of the Dionysius monastery are located on a hill above the meadows of the Saale valley. The ruins are surrounded by hedges and trees on a flower meadow and exude a wonderful sense of tranquillity.
According to some sources, a small wooden church stood here as early as the 9th century, which was rebuilt several times over the centuries. At the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s, the foundation walls and some skeletons were excavated, indicating a former cemetery. Pupils from the Bad Kissingen vocational school finally rebuilt the foundation walls of the Dionysius monastery as a "footprint" above the ground, which gives an idea of the shape of the church at the time.
