The Meuselwitz Schnaudermühle, built in 1534 and therefore the oldest building in the town, was home to the local history museum from 1966 to 1983. Left to decay for years, it had to be demolished in 1988 due to dilapidation.

In 1993, members of the Meuselwitzer Heimat-, Umwelt- u. Naturschutzverein e. V. (MHUN) (Meuselwitz Heritage, Environment and Nature Conservation Association) brought the museum collection out of its slumber and prepared it for exhibition. As a temporary solution, the Heimatstube was housed in a former crèche - somewhat hidden on the outskirts of the village - from 1993 to 1996 and made accessible to the public.

On December 6, 1996, the new museum was opened in an old, lovingly reconstructed half-timbered house in the immediate city center directly behind the church.

The teacher, local historian and local historian Heinrich Meyer had already compiled the basis of the local history collections around 1920. The wealth of exhibits is now constantly being expanded by the Meuselwitz local history association and donations from local history enthusiasts from near and far.

The tour leads through thematically organized rooms. These cover the areas of urban development, mining, the history of Meuselwitz's crafts, industry and associations as well as the development of the districts and life in the Altenburger Land region.

On 20.5. l 21.5. l 18.6. and 16.7.23 and on request, the local history museum will open its doors for you from 10:00 to 17:00.

The special exhibition of the Meuselwitzer Heimat-, Umwelt- und Naturschutzverein e.V. from 20.05.2023 shows works by the artist Jörg Gadomski.
