The building, also called Barracks III, was built at the beginning of the 18th century, two-story with a high gable roof. Shortly thereafter, the builders raised it by a third floor with a flat gable roof and bomb-proof beam ceilings. Apart from a brief residential phase, the military used the barracks until 1945, when children attended school here, only to hand the building back to the police and combat troops. Since 1993, it has been the office and archive building of the "Stasi Records Authority". About 4,500 linear meters of files are stored in the archive.
