Schmirchauer Höhe with mine lighting
The Schmirchauer Höhe is an artificial landscape structure at the former site of the Lichtenberg open-cast mine.
As part of the redevelopment of the mining landscape and as a backdrop for the 2007 Federal Garden Show, there is now an opportunity to explore the landscape.
From the Forststraße parking lot, it is a 40-minute walk to the summit of the Schmirchauer Höhe with a pit light and accessible map. With good visibility, you can see the Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig or the Ore Mountains. The Schmirchauer Höhe can now be reached on foot via several routes. This area is not accessible by private car. A bus shuttle can be booked in advance.
