Beech forest sculpture
Beech forest sculpture
The famous Buchenwald sculpture by Fritz Cremer is part of the Buchenwald memorial complex, the largest and most important memorial to a concentration camp in Germany. The group of figures, created between 1954 and 1958, was restored between 2002 and 2005. The expressive group unites eleven larger-than-life bronze figures symbolizing the struggle and sacrifice, victory and oath of the prisoners. Behind the memorial group, the 50-metre-high bell tower rises up massively and can be seen far into the countryside.
