Crawinkel - at the foot of the 721 m high Kienberg - is not without reason called one of the gates of the Thuringian Forest. Even from a distance, the town's distinctive church tower greets locals and visitors alike. While in the east and north spacious natural pastures with grazing cattle and horses characterize the landscape and invite for hiking, biking and carriage rides, the village borders in the south and west directly on the Thuringian Forest. This connection and the transition from open landscape to forested heights is what makes Crawinkel so appealing.

In an unprecedented action, it was discovered in 2007 during the GEO Day of Biodiversity, organized by the magazine GEO, that Crawinkel and its surroundings are home to more animal species than any other region in Germany. This testifies to an intact nature with a high experience value. 

But also the village has a lot to offer and invites you to visit and discover. Not without reason Crawinkel was chosen in 2005 as the most beautiful place in the district of Gotha. And the appearance and image of the community of 1600 souls is constantly being improved. Crawinkel is the ideal starting point to get to know Thuringia because of its central location and good traffic connections. As a neighboring town of the well-known tourist resort Oberhof, the guest of Crawinkel benefits from the infrastructure there. But also the Thuringian cultural cities Eisenach, Gotha, Meiningen, Arnstadt, Erfurt and Weimar can be reached very well and quickly from Crawinkel.
