Barfüßerkirche
Barfüßerkirche
The ruins of this once magnificent medieval building are a reminder of a devastating bomb attack during the Second World War. The nave of the church, which was built by the Franciscans in the 14th and 15th centuries and was one of the masterpieces of German mendicant architecture of the Middle Ages, was destroyed. Only the valuable windows from the 13th century and the wooden winged altar were saved for posterity. The rebuilt choir now houses a branch of the Angermuseum with medieval sacred art such as Gothic stained glass, two altars and the 14th century tomb slab of Cinna von Vargula. Various events are held here in summer.
