Church of St. Marien Orlamünde
Church of St. Marien Orlamünde
The church was probably built in the 11th century by the Counts of Orlamünde in the immediate vicinity of the bower and was the main church for the surrounding area. In 1194, the church was reconsecrated by the Archbishop of Mainz after thorough renovation. The lower part of the tower is said to date back to the 12th century, it was extended in 1504 and the spire was finally added in 1651. The nave in its current form was built in 1767/68. The organ façade dates back to 1782.
