Bieler Tower
Bieler Tower
It is located at an altitude of 409 meters and offers visitors a wonderful view over the Orla valley. The Bielerturm is maintained by the Orlamünde local history association.
The 14-metre-high limestone tower was built in 1895 in just a few months. The funds came from a lottery and donations. It was called the "Kaiser Wilhelm Tower" until the Kaiser's abdication. Only then did the name "Bielerturm" become commonplace. The massive tower even withstood the destruction of the Second World War. Only the staircase inside burned down. A 60-step spiral staircase was installed in 1964.
