Schiller Church "Our Lady" Jena
Schiller Church "Our Lady" Jena
The Schiller Church was built as a hall church in the 14th/15th century. The first mention dates back to 1382. Structurally, it is a conglomerate of Gothic and later architectural styles. After construction began in the Gothic style, the church was later completed in a more modest style. As Friedrich Schiller and Charlotte von Lengefeld were married here, the church is popularly known as the "Schiller Church". After extensive renovation work from 1977, the church and organ were rededicated in 1997. The choir was also extensively renovated in 2003. In 2007, the parish celebrated the 700th anniversary of its church. The active parish life invites young and old to sing and pray together and draw strength for everyday life. The Church of Lights is always worth a visit on the first Friday of the month. There are also regular spiritual concerts and readings.
