Fröbelsruh Schweina
Fröbelsruh Schweina
"Fröbelsruh" is the popular name for the place that Fröbel liked to visit alone or with friends when he was working in and around Bad Liebenstein and enjoyed the wonderful view of the Werra Valley. Today, the natural site is adorned by Fröbel's original gravestone, which was designed by Wilhelm Middendorf and created by Ernst Luther - a descendant of Martin Luther's family and a former pupil of Fröbel - in gratitude to his teacher and friend. The figure of the stone - the stacked parts of Fröbel's second gift of play (ball, roller, cube) - is today regarded as the Fröbel symbol known the world over.
